Project:
Today’s children are tomorrow’s parents; after school centers for children from multi-problem families
In this project of Stichting Kinder Postzegels several after school centers are established in Bosnia, Serbia and Montenegro. Each center can accomodate about 30 children aged 7 to 14. These children are coming from multi-problem families (alcoholic parents, poor social cirumstances, parents with psychiatric problems, etc.) and therefore face difficulties, for example in school. They can come to the centers after school and during weekends. Here they receive emotional support and get help with their school work, as well as structured leisure activities like drawing or computer lessons. The overall aim is to strengthen the resilience of these children.
ICDI has been involved from the beginning in the development of this project, and has an advisory role during implementation. We also deliver several trainings on a range of subjects (child development, intervision, child rights, etc.) to staff of the centers. We have also helped develop a selection criteria checklist and a format for individual action plans for the children.
