Sixteen certified Master Trainers in Ukraine
15-06-2011For the past six months, using the knowledge aqcuired in the first Training of Trainers in November 2010, these professionals have been conducting life skills training for young people growing up in institutions. Besides practical skills like budgetting, the youngsters followed sessions on issues like conflict management and trafficking. Several trainers have started implementing the tools they learned to formulate Individual Action Plans for youngsters, something which was introduced in the second Traing of Trainers in march 2011. It was heartwarming to see how positively children had reacted to these more inclusive and participatory methods.
The sessions in Lviv were also used to evaluate the past six months and improve the materials and tools that the trainers have been using while working with the youngsters. We also went a bit deeper into the theory and practice of working with children. Together with the future Master Trainers we started working on new ideas and topics that could better the lives of children growing up in institutions. Receiving the certificates the participants indicated that they know that they are only at the beginning of a long process of reforming the system of child and youthcare in the Ukraine. The nice thing about this project is, that although it focusses on long term change, many people are already now feeling the positive change and new energies released because of it.
