Job vacancy at ICDI
14-08-2006
Programme Manager
Global profile new colleague
Deadline for applications: 31 August 2006
Thanks to external financial support we have the opportunity to recruit new staff and give a boost to ICDI’s role as a positive force for and on behalf of marginalized children and youth and to the realization of our mandate and mission. The current arrangement has an initial duration of three years, but could be renewed if the external financier and ICDI are happy with the achievements. Even when there will be no extension, three years should enable the new person both to earn her/his own salary as well as generate a surplus which could be used to attract more staff.
Until now we have been a largely informal, flat organization and we think that this will remain so. We are content with this situation and would like to continue appealing to the multi-tasking skills of our staff. Thus, when we are looking for a new colleague, we expect that this person will be able to:
* participate as a full member in the present team and contribute to the debate and practice of ICDI, provide it with fresh inputs and open up new avenues;
* take on existing projects, monitor these and use these as bases for further growth and collaboration between project partners and ICDI;
* develop new project and research ideas, identify new partners and attract financial and other forms of support for these activities;
* take part in ICDI’s networks, develop and obtain access to new ones;
* be a fully-fledged member of the ICCYS team and participate in its activities, including teaching and research;
* feel at ease at ICDI and pursue her/his own professional interests within ICDI’s overall framework.
To this end, the new staff should have:
* a proven interest in the well-being of children and youth, especially with those who live in poverty or are socially excluded;
* a thorough track record in the field of children and youth issues (at least MA level);
* a shown proficiency in action research;
* an understanding of international development issues;
* working experience in a context of ‘international development’; and
* full proficiency in English as a working language –access to other languages is appreciated.
As to the remuneration, this is open to negotiations; in general we are guided by the HR policies of our partner, the Institute of Social Studies in The Hague. The position is, in principle, for a three-, four- or five-day working week.
