ICDI welcomes a visitor from South Ossetia
22-01-2009

JHR is a small NGO based in Tshinkval, the capital of South Ossetia. Just a couple of months ago a brutal, renewed war broke out between the Georgian army and South Ossetian separatist forces. Russia subsequently entered Georgia and the Georgian forces had to retreat. Also other parts of the country were temporarily occupied by the Russian army. A seize-fire was evntually brokered by the EU. Since then Russia has recognized the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia (another break-away republic in Georgia), the only country to do so.

The war has left South Ossetia and big parts of Georgia devastated. Irina and her organization JHR have always been very active in reconciliation and psychosocial projects for children (for years these projects were supported by War Child). Herself a refugee during the recent war, her house also having been destroyed, she is now trying to restart JHR's activities. She came to take part in ICDI's partnership programme to get support from Dutch organizations for children's and women's projects she wants to start.

If you like to know more about ICDI's partnership programme please go to the 'Services' section of our website.
