Child Rights in Guatemala

Sara Maria Chicoj Garciá (25) is from Aguja, Guatemala. She is very much concerned with violence that for some time has tormented her country and its people. Through her project “”Pintando mi Realidad” (picture my reality) she used various cultural and artistic activities to teach children about their rights and stand up for themselves. By making them aware of their rights and giving them the confidence to use them Sara believes that children can play a essential part in combating violence in their community. Her art classes and cultural festivals are in themselves wonderful community events in which violence does not occur. We hope her message can spread from Aguja throughout the rests of Guatemala.
