Having a strong conviction that children should not live in destitution, powerlessness and unsafe environments because of deep rooted poverty, Getahun Wuletaw  (19) began advocating for the respect of children’s right to lead healthy life, education and freedom from any abuse. Despite many hardships in early life, Getahun is an active member (also chaired) his school’s child right clubs and a speaker of the child parliament in Hawassa. He has fought against many injustices facing the young people of his home region of Hawassa. In his project he organised many awareness raising events, including panel discussions with government agencies and community representatives, mini media clubs in schools and even a coffee ceremonies focused on children’s rights. The mini-media clubs at schools who are now promoting children’s rights and are able to lobby at school and local level. Through his passion and creativity Getahun has not only given himself new chances in life, but many others too.
Getahun was supported by Jerusalem Children and Community Development Organization (JeCCDO
