New publication about young children and early childhood education and care settings

A paper about belonging and citizenship and young children in early years settings in urban areas, written by one of ICDI’s Senior Programme Managers, Margaret Kernan, has been published in the most recent edition of the European Early Childhood Education Research Journal (Vol. 18, No. 2, June 2010, 199-213).

Children, Youth and Development Diploma Course 2011

Please find more information in the flyer or on the ISS website.  A restricted number of fellowships is available from the Netherlands Fellowships Programme. The deadline for the 2011 NFP programme is 1 September 2010.

15 juni: workshop voor kinderrechtenorganisaties in Kinderrechtenhuis

Op 28 mei 2010 zal het Nederlandse Kinderrechtenhuis officieel geopend worden. De verwachting is dat het Kinderrechtenhuis een (inter)nationaal centrum voor informatie, communicatie en educatie rond kinderrechten zal worden. Ter ondersteuning van dit streven organiseert ICDI op dinsdag 15 juni met financiële steun van Jeugd en Gezin en in samenwerking met IREWOC en DCI een workshop om het Kinderrechtenhuis te presenteren aan relevante actoren in Nederland.

Conference on non-violent forms of disciplining children in Suriname

ICDI's Nico van Oudenhoven and Rona Julia Ali gave talks at a well attended seminar in Paramaribo, Suriname, on the 7th of May. At this seminar professionals from different organizations (police, schools, NGO's) exchanged knowledge on the topic of non-violent child rearing methods, a very relevant issue in a country where violence against children is not un-common.
